Viola Joyce Friel

Viola Joyce Friel, age 84, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 14, 1940 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Edgar and Nellie (Nottingham) Marion.                       

Joyce married Edward W. Friel on May of 1969. He preceded her in death in July of 2003.  

Mourning her passing are her sons, Kyle Friel and Jason Friel; granddaughter, Shawna; great-grandson, Liam; brother, Carl Marion; sister, Bonnie Majerus; and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce graduated from Athens High School in 1958 and later from Heartland Community College Nursing Department in 1995.

She worked for Franklin Life and State of Illinois Department of Corrections.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

No services will be held for Joyce, per her wishes.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Springfield Memorial Hospital.
