Charles Richard “Rich” VanMeter, age 71, of Athens, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He is survived by his wife, Jerilyn; children, Charles Richard “Charlie” (Dawn) VanMeter Jr., Deborah (Brian) Todd, and Robin (Dave) Burris; ten grandchildren, Ryan (fianc√© Alyssa Kauffman) Capranica, Katie (fianc√© Dan Musser) Hunter, Charles Richard “Cory” (Emily) VanMeter III, Nicholas (Ellen) VanMeter, Coady VanMeter, Rachel Todd, Nathan Todd, Alex (Britni) Burris, Allison Burris, Abbigayle Burris; two brothers, Jerry VanMeter and John VanMeter; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by parents.
Rich was born on July 31, 1942 in Springfield, Illinois the son of Charles and Marietta VanMeter.
He married Jerilyn Conover on August 18, 1962 at the Laurel Methodist Church in Springfield.
Rich was employed as a Farm Market Manager for 39 years.
He was a life-time member of the Cantrall United Methodist Church. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed playing cards with dear friends.
Visitation will be held at 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.
Rev. Bob Ervin will be officiating.
Burial will be held at Fancy Creek Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Cantrall United Methodist Church, Fancy Creek Cemetery Association, or to the Athens Volunteer Fire Department.

Jerilyn – We are so sorry about the loss of Rich. He was a great person and will be terribly missed by all who knew him. You and the family have our love and prayers.

Rich was a great friend, had lots of fun with he and jerilyn playing pinochle and just being together;he will be truly missed.

Our love and prayers go out to Robin, Jerilyn and all of the Burris and VanMeter family. We had so many fun times with Rich and Jerilyn on their trips to Florida.

Jerilyn and Family, So sorry to read of the passing of Rich. He was a great guy. I have many fond memories of Rich while working for him at the Kaiser plant so many years ago. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Jerilyn and Family: I’m sorry to learn of Rich’s passing. I always enjoyed calling on Rich during my Ag Chemical Rep. days with Shell/ DuPont. He was such a joy to know and Linda & I always enjoyed the “Kaiser Stomps”. Our prayers are with you and your family. Dave & Linda Hacker
