Sylvia Elizabeth Castaño, age 61, died at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, on Thursday, June 5, 2014. The cause was respiratory failure during a lengthy convalescence from a broken hip.
Sylvia was born February 2, 1953, in Bakersfield, California. She received her bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Redlands. She went on to receive a master of science degree in Library Science at the University of Illinois and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of Houston. She served as Director of Legal Communications at the University of Houston and later as Associate Director of the University of Houston Law Library. She also served as a research law librarian at Capital University.
Survivors include her husband Kenneth Cox, her mother Loretta Casta√±o, her daughter Clarissa Cox, her aunt Hulda Flagg, her uncle Manuel Casta√±o, and Manuel’s wife Lou O’Hanlon and many cousins. Preceded in death by her father John Roman Casta√±o.
