Donald Ellsworth Spence, age 68, of Athens, passed away after a fight with cancer on Friday, October 24, 2008 at his residence.
He is survived by: Wife : Janet Daughters : Stacey Spence of Williamsville Lisa Fix of Longmont, CO
One Sister : Patty (Paul) Harris of Williamsville
Step-Daughters – Lori (Brad) Demuzio of Carlinville
Julie (Corey) Smith of Longmont, CO
Grandchildren – Taylor & Logan Edwards
Courtney Fix
Blake & Brooke Demuzio
Kendall & Cole Smith
Mr. Spence was born August 27, 1940 in Springfield, the son of Alberta Fullager.
He is preceded in death by mother, Alberta Fullager.
Don graduated from Williamsville High School and attended Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Missouri and then graduated from the National Barber College.
Mr. Spence was a life time member of Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA), former member of Anchor Boat Club, Peoria Boat Club, Member of Elks 158, VFW 755 in Springfield and Country Hills Golf Club. He loved playing golf and the Cubs.
Mr. Spence served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 until 1966.
During Mr. Spence life he was a bricklayer, a barber and then retired from the Automobile Industry. After retirement he became a part-time barber for six years in Athens. Don was noted as a “Jack of All Trades and Master of Most”.
Visitation will be held at Mott & Henning Funeral Home on Monday from 5 until 7 PM. Graveside services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Military Rites being performed. Cremation rites were accorded.
Memorials contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or VNA Hospice.
