William Sherman, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012 at his home in Miami.

He was born in Indianapolis, IN on February 5, 1923 to Professor William and Catherine Sherman.

At two weeks of age, William was taken to the family home in Greencastle, IN, where his father taught at DePaul University. The family moved Hillsdale, MI when Bill was seven. He attended both high school and college in Hillsdale and called to the Army in 1943. He attended Army weather school and received his Commission as 2nd Lt. and assigned to Mac Dill Field in Tampa, FL.

He was discharged from the Army in May 1946, meeting Kay Rathsack the same year. They married in September, 1946. Daughter Laura was born five years later.

Bill joined United Airlines employed as a meteorologist at Midway Airport, Chicago. Having earned a BA in Economics, he continued at United in corporate planning for thirty-five years.

During their Chicago years, Bill and Kay faithfully attended church, each receiving the Lord as their personal Savior. There they were active in missions programs and when Bill retired in 1980, they moved to Miami, where both Bill and Kay served at the Latin American Mission for the next ten years. During these years, Bill and Kay were members of Kendall Presbyterian Church, continuing their mission activities. In Miami, Bill too was vice-governor of the Mayflower Society. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home, Athens, IL from 10:00 until 11:00 AM followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview at 11:30 AM.Cremation rites were accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kendall Presbyterian Church or to the Latin American Mission.
