Sharon Kimmons, age 85, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024. She was born January 3, 1939, the daughter of Everett L. and Louise (Wampler) Scehnet. Sharon married Don L. Kimmons in Decatur on April 5, 1958.
Mourning her passing are a son, Donald Kevin (wife Bernice) Kimmons; daughter, Susan (husband George) Nielsen; grandson, Greg (wife Crystal) Kimmons; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Taylor Kimmons; sister, Betty Wolverton (husband, Richard); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Don; an infant daughter, Kimberly Sue; her brothers, Ron Scehnet and Dick Scehnet; sisters, Phyllis Stateler and Judy Scehnet.
Sharon was employed by the State of Illinois for 30 years in the Bureau of the Budget, Office of the Comptroller, and the Department of Revenue before retiring in 1999. After retiring, she volunteered at Lawrence Education Center, Central Illinois Food Bank’s Kids’ Café, Contact Ministries, and was a member of the Menard County Youth Mentoring Association for several years. She was also a member of the Athens Christian Church.
A memorial service will be held at the Athens Christian Church at 10:00 AM on Friday January 26, 2024 followed by a graveside service at the Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens, IL where burial of cremains will be held. Rev. Shane Baker will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Athens Christian Church or the Central Illinois Food Bank.

Oh,my what a shock to read this, someone please let me know what happened 🙏🏼 so soon after Don’s passing,this is Genes wife Cindy Kimmons I can remember when you all came down to Florida to visit, please some one fill me in about what happened 🙏🙏🏼🙏🤔❤️

To Sharon’s family…I am so sorry to hear about Sharon’s passing. I worked with her in the Comptroller’s Office. She was a wonderful, caring person and always had a smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and I pray your sweet memories of her will bring you comfort.

Kevin and Susan, I was so saddened to hear of your mom’s passing. She was always such a sweet lady. She always made me feel better after I talked with her. She and your dad were such a nice couple. They never said anything bad about anyone. I will miss them both very much.

Dear Kevin and Susan, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom and dad were such good neighbors of mine and Jim’s way back in the 60’s, wonderful people. They are together again in such a glorious place. Peace and love to you.

i am so sorry to hear about Sharon. She and Don were always such great people in the community. When i was young, they would meet at my parents’ grocery store from work and walk home together. What nice memories..they were wonderful people and will be missed

Sorry to hear about Sharon passing. I worked with Don (Cotton picker) at the Air Guard that was his nick name. And his jet missed him working on it. Sharon would come and see Don in the hanger from time to time she was always a nice lady.
