John F. “Frank” Shafer, age 74, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He is survived by his wife Janet, one step-son Derick (Amelia) Cheek of Springfield, one granddaughter Anna Cheek, four brothers Darrel of Canton, MO., Larry (Bev) of Springfield, Richard of Greenfield, David (Ann) of Jacksonville, three sisters Nelda King of Woodson, Linda Settles of Jacksonville, Debbie (Rick) Wellhausen of Jerseyville, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Ronald L. Shafer.
Frank was born on March 8, 1939 in Greenfield, IL, the son of Ralph and Helen (Piper) Shafer.
He married Janet Moore on September 29, 1995 in Greenfield, IL.
Frank worked at Stone Seed Company and later farmed in the Greenfield and Springfield areas for many years.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 10 AM until time of service at 11AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, IL.
Rev. Mike Keppler will be officiating.
Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
Memorials can be made to American Heart Association.
Family is being served by Mott & Henning Funeral Home, in Athens, IL.

So sorry for your loss Jan. Uncle Frank will be missed greatly. We had many good times with Frank while we were growing up. We could always count on him to make us laugh. Will keep you in my prayers.
