Russell M. Baugher passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, peacefully with his family at his side.
He was born to Harold & Ruth Baugher, Sr on March 30, 1937 in Springfield IL.
Russell married Constance J. Eilks on October 23, 1959 and they had three children.
Russell spent many years being a large equipment operator with Doyle and Pottorf Construction and fondly remembers building roads, subdivisions and bluffs throughout Menard and Mason County. After his father’s death in the early 70’s, Russell joined his brothers as owner/operators of Baugher Implement and retired from there in 2007 when the business was closed.
Russell was an avid conservationist and storyteller, who also enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring old tractors and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
At his request; Russell will be cremated with his ashes being spread at the patch in a private ceremony to be held at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Constance, of 62 years; children: Randy Baugher (companion Sheryl Garfat), Reggie (Nancy) Baugher and Cindy (Kami Becker) Baugher; five grandsons: Zachary, Brent, Lucas, Skyler and Chance and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Norma (Herman) Cramer and Annabelle (Tony) Wood and one brother, Harold (Peggy) Baugher, Jr.
He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessie and his brothers George and Orville.
In lieu of a funeral service Russell would like for you to remember him by telling a story or a joke with a smile. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

I remember Cindy’s dad with a perpetual smile. Always made you feel welcome by being happy to see you. Once, Cindy and l went fishing and he was helping us get underway. He just smiled and shook his head when l told him l didn’t want to touch the bait. As he left he patted Cindy on the back and said, “Good luck with this one!”
A great guy that will be greatly missed! Prayers to his family. Love, Dee Hoard

Russ was one of those people who made this world BETTER! I was recently sharing a story of his generosity to my son during the hardest time of his life. (It involved the gift of a TRACTOR!!) ❤️ Russ, Connie, and the whole Baugher family are high on our “favorite people” list❣️ Hugs and prayers to all!

Randy, Reggie, Cindy, Connie, and the rest of the Baugher family,
It is with a profound sadness I read this news of Russell’s passing today. Such a wonderful friend to many and a true friend of the natural world. I will miss the days sitting on the sandbar or meeting at the Patch and hearing his stories. He was always interested in whatever research I was doing and what scientist I was bringing to his property which he so graciously gave me permission to conduct over the years. I will miss (but never forget) those chance meetings in wilds of Menard County (and catching catfish off the sandbar)!
Rest peacefully my friend, you will be missed!

To all the Baugher family, our thoughts & prayers are with you at this time. Memories go way back to early years when both of our Dads traded ‘red’ at Baugher Implement. Then came memories of the next generation trading ‘red’ with us. Russell was always friendly and would even stop when passing the farm. We enjoyed his knowledge of Native American artifacts. He will be greatly missed. Sincerely, Al & Marilyn
