Ronald Nickell, age 61, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the Lewis Memorial Christian Home in Springfield, Illinois.

Ron was born July 23, 1961 in Moline, IL, the son of JB and Anna Mae (Alley) Nickell.

He married Mary Nickell on June 28,2003 at their home in rural Athens, IL.

Mourning his passing are two daughters, Rita and Rachael Nickell; three step-daughters, Emily, Katy, and Molly Rand; three grandsons, Lucas Beaty, Dylan Adams, and Colin Adams; sister, Cindy (Chris) Lambach; and several nieces, nephews, & friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2013; and his parents.

Ron worked for the US Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic in Springfield.  Ron and his wife Mary started the Coyote Run Buffalo Ranch in 2002.

Ron was an avid muzzleloader and gun enthusiast.

He was a member of the Athens VFW Post #129.  Ron also volunteered for the Loami Fire Department.

He loved attending fishing tournaments, guns, anything outdoors.  He was an avid Chicago Bears fan.  Ron loved a good comedy show and spending time with his friends.

Visitation will be held on 9:00 AM until time of funeral services at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the Athens Christian Church.  Rev. Ken Gennicks will be officiating.  Burial will be held immediately after the services at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
