Roland E. Doom, age 72, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by his family.

Roland was born on August 10, 1944 in Springfield, IL the son of William and Grace Grieme-Doom.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Alice (Jack) Hatten.

He is survived by his wife Cheri of 51 years; one son, Stuart R. Doom of Athens, two daughters, Stephanie (Darryl) Powers of Sumter, SC and Samantha (Doug) Detmers of Hartsburg, IL; four grandchildren, Lindsay Shull of Anchorage, AK, Chelsea (Cody) Miller of Fort Worth, TX, and Jordan and Xavier Detmers of Hartsburg, IL.

He was a lifelong farmer and he ran his family business. He was currently employed at BUNN O-Matic as a laser operator.

Roland was on the board of trustees for nearly 40 years at Williamsville United Methodist Church. He was also in the choir and served in other various capacities over the years. Roland was also a lifetime member of the Williamsville FFA Alumni. In his earlier years he was a Shriner. Roland was a Golden Harvest seed dealer with his son Stuart.

Roland served as a member of the Illinois Army National Guard from 1962-1970.

Visitation for Roland will be on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Williamsville United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 10 AM at Williamsville United Methodist Church.

Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.

Rev. Dick Piscatelli will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Williamsville United Methodist Church.
