Robert “Tim” Costello, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL.

Tim is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Michele (John) Marr of Gridley, IL and Julie (Andres) Munoz-Najar of Champaign, IL; son, John (Pam) Costello of Hummelstown, PA; grandchildren, Quincy, Ambre, and Phoenix Marr, Tarah Benner, Courtney, Shane, and Ashley Costello, and Sebastian Munoz-Najar; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Joe Costello, Mame Ducey, John T. Costello, Alice Ann Kirby, and Susie Dietel; and a daughter, Kathleen Ann Benner.

Tim was born July 5, 1930 in Buffalo, IL, the son of Mark William and Alice Frances Mulcahy Costello.

He married Linda Oller, his companion of 31 years, on May 26, 2010 in Daytona Beach, FL.

Tim served in the United States Army as a CPL from 1951 through 1953. He also served a portion of his time as a medic during the Korean War.

He began his career at KWIK WALL (Capitol Wood Works), starting as a Foreman and retiring as a Plant Superintendent in 1992 after 37 years. Two years after retirement, Tim formed a lawn mowing operation serving businesses and individuals in the Springfield area for 10 years.

As an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, Tim enjoyed taking trips to St. Louis or watching Cardinal baseball from home. He delighted in spending time with family and taking beach vacations with Linda. Everyone loved his knack of rousing laughter with his pranks and antics. Tim “lit-up” whenever the grandkids were around him.

Tim raised his children with a strong moral compass, devout faith in God, and a strong work ethic. His mantra was, “When things are too tough for everyone else, they’re just right for a Costello!” He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle and will be greatly missed.

Private services will be held.

Memorials can be made to St. John’s Hospice or the Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach.
