Robert “Mr. Fix It” Rust age 77, of Athens, IL passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by his family.

Bob was born May 12, 1941 in Pleasant Plains, IL the son of Eugene and Emma Mowry Rust.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, two daughters, Arlene (David) Stromberg and Judi (Jack) Harlan; three grandchildren, Brandon (Brittney) Harlan, Alisha (Justin) Gibbons and Brett (Justina) Harlan; five great – grandchildren, Matthew, Maddison, Hunter Harlan, Khloe Gibbons and Gabby Clark.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1961 and served until 1965.

Bob worked at HD Smith from 1965 – 1976. In 1976, Bob started his own handy man business expanding to what everyone called him, “Mr. Fix It.”

He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan and received much pleasure harassing any Chicago Cub fan. Most of all Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Bob’s proudest moment was recently attending the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.

Bob was a member of the Westside Christian Church in Springfield.

Visitation for Bob will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 10-11 AM at the Athens Christian Church in Athens. Services will immediately follow at 11 AM at the Athens Christian Church.

Pastor Gary Sheets will be officiating.

Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Memorials can be given to “Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.”

  1. Bob was a GREAT guy!! The Cardinal Nation lost a great friend Saturday. My prayers are with you, Joyce, and all of your kids and grandkids.
