Robert E. Miller

Robert E. Miller, age 79, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield.

He was born on September 27, 1942 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Frank and Alberta (Hemphill) Miller.

Mourning his passing are his children, Maria (husband Kevin) Hopwood, Joyce Ann Miller, Mark Miller, and Eric Miller; grandchildren, Edward Hopwood, Zachary Hopwood, and Liam Miller; sister, Billie Lynn Sentell; half-sister, Carolyn Brooks; step-sister, Susan Wood; step-brother, David Wood; and niece, Terri Greenwald.

Robert is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alicia Hopwood; and niece, Jennifer Sentell

He graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield.

Robert worked for PORTA High School in Petersburg for nearly 20 years.  He also worked for Fiat-Allis for nineteen years.

Robert was hard-working and a good provider for his family. He wanted the best for his children.   He was a loyal Christian, where he attended Southside Christian Church for several decades.

Robert was passionate about his cars, trucks, and hot rods.  He loved attending car shows throughout central Illinois.  He also enjoyed going to stockcar races, demolition derbys at
Shaheen’s Springfield Speedway in Springfield.  He enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool, and fishing.

Robert enjoyed attending his children’s sports activities, especially his son’s basketball games and BMX races.

A proud accomplishment was that Robert never smoked or drank his entire life.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Woodwreath (Island Grove) Cemetery near New Berlin.
