Robert V. Cooper

Robert V. Cooper, age 81, of Athens, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at his residence.

He was born on March 28, 1943 in Petersburg, Illinois, the son of Virgil and Mary (Hubbard) Cooper.

Robert married Judy Hill on July 16, 1965. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2014

Mourning his passing are his daughter, Lisa (husband Robert) Barto; two sons, John (wife Delisa) Cooper and Mark Cooper; grandchildren, Briann (husband Eric) Housh, Julie Barto, Cody Nunn, Jimmy Nunn, Jordan Barto, Samantha (husband Jessie) Carbonaro, Rosilyn (husband Dereck) Galicia, Casey Cooper, Corey Cooper, and Mandy Brown; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Cooper, Arianna Cooper, Alexis Cooper, Dorian Carbonaro, Rowan Carbonaro, and Braelyn Brown; great-great-grandchild, Genesis Cooper; sister, Nancy Honea; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Lois Glenn, Nola Cooper, Gerald Cooper, Betty Cooper, Margaret Barkoozis, Gary Cooper, Danny Cooper, and John Michael Cooper; and a grandson, Joshua Fuller.

Robert graduated from Marseilles High School. After graduating high school he served in the US Air Force for over 20 years.

He worked for EG&G for over 30 years. After retirement from EG&G he built his own home here in Athens. Robert was also a handyman for Athens and surrounding communities.

He was a member of the Menard County American Legion Post #129.

Throughout his life, Robert loved woodworking and shooting at gun ranges.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, Toys for Tots, or the Menard County American Legion Post #129.
