Robert “Bob” L. Hankley, age 75, of Athens, departed on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Bob was born on August 26, 1944 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Paul and Regina (Antonacci) Hankley.
He married Donna on June 14, 1969 in Springfield. She preceded him in death in 2003.
Bob later married Jean Dougherty on December 15, 2018 in Sherman.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Amy Gresham of Sherman and Lisa (David) Adams of Athens; grandchildren, Luke and Molly Adams; mother-in-law, Eileen Tamborini; one brother, John “Jack” Hankley; one sister, Paula Nelson; step-son, Shane Dougherty; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob is also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, June Hankley; brother-in-law, David Tamborini; and niece, Regina Wolfmeier.
He worked for Fiat Allis for over 25 years, then later worked for the State of Illinois for several years retiring in 2003.
Bob was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Athens. He was also a member of the Route 97 Cruisers.
He served for the United States Army for two years. Bob enjoyed old cars and NASCAR, and especially loved spending time with his family and friends and watching his grandkids’ activities.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church with Fr. George Nellikunnel officiating. Burial will be held at Hall Cemetery in Athens.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lisa and family, my prayers are with you. My son Vince Gurski was very fond of your dad. I remember you dad’s big smile and happy personality. May you rest that he is with the Lord.

We were saddened to learn of Bob’s passing. We were classmates at Lanphier High School in Springfield. We have very positive memories of him. Our sympathies are extended to his wife and children.

Jean, I am so sorry about your loss. I never met Bob, but it seems as if he was a great guy. You have my deepest sympathy.
