Richard L. Parkhurst, 89, of Greenview, IL, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Rich was born June 8, 1933, in Athens, IL to Rhonda and Dewey Parkhurst. He attended school in Athens and joined the Army in 1951. He was stationed stateside at Ft Leonard Wood, during the Korean war and was honorably discharged in 1953. He then became a member of Laborer’s Local 477 where he worked for the next 30 years.
Richard married Gretchen Ann Goodall on March 27, 1964, in Springfield, Illinois.
Richard is survived by five children, Kim Burton of Auburn, IL; Kevin Parkhurst of Windsor, CA; Todd Parkhurst of Springfield, Stephen Parkhurst of Greenview IL and Michelle Maaks (Paul) of Park Falls, WI. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Gretchen; parents; his brothers, Dave and Bill; and sister, Mary Jane Parks; nephews, Terry and Tim; and nieces, Marla and Kathy.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 11:00 AM until time of funeral services at 12:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens with Cindy Lash officiating. Graveside services will be held immediately after the service at Indian Point Cemetery near Athens.
Memorials can be made to Westside Christian Church in Springfield.

Sorry to hear of Richard’s passing. I only met him a few times. The Obituary failed to mention his other two daughters Bonnie Parkhurst Perganson and Dorothy Parkhurst Tomko. He also had 7 other grandkids.

So sorry for your loss. We knew all the Parkhurst in Athens. I use to babysit Richard and Gretchen’s 5 children.
