Reeda Charis joined her beloved husband and entered eternal rest on Monday, October 28, 2024 at her residence.
She was born July 24, 1925 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon and Stella (Reid) Grant.
Reeda married Bill Charis in 1945.
She is survived by her two sons, Bill Jr. of Chicago and Robert of Champaign.
Her husband, Bill; sister, Ellamarie Fitch; brother, Robert Grant; and other family members preceded her in death.
She graduated from Middletown High School.
In 1945, Reeda moved to Mason City, Illinois and helped Bill run a successful business for many years. They were well-known in that community.
In 1969, Bill and Reeda moved to Springfield where Bill managed a Super-X Drug store. When Super-X closed, Bill worked for the State of Illinois, as did Reeda.
Bill and Reeda retired in 1994 and moved to Champaign, Illinois where they enjoyed University of Illinois football and basketball. Bill and Reeda were contributors to the University of Illinois Foundation and members of the Memorial Stadium Colonnade Club, where they appreciated the wonderful students and employees. Bill and Reeda loved Chief Illiniwek and were disappointed when the University of Illinois agreed to retire the Chief.
A small family graveside remembrance will be held.
The family requests no flowers. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Illini Quarterback Club or the Illini Rebounders at 405 W. University Avenue, Apt. #403; Champaign, Illinois 61820-3990.
