Pearl L. Rogers, age 89, of Athens, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born on December 26, 1929 in Mason City, IL, the daughter of Dono and Verna (Theobald) Montgomery. Pearl married Paul Rogers on November 23, 1950. He survives.
She is also survived by a daughter, Paula (Ron Klass) Rogers; two step-grandsons, Stephen Klass of Belmont, CA and Bryan Klass of Streator, IL; and five great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Pearl is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Elsie Swaar; and two brothers, John and Dohn Montgomery.
Pearl earned an associate degree from Lincoln Land Community College. She worked at several businesses, including Franklin Life, Menard County Soil and Water Conservation, and Farm Business Farm Management in Springfield, as a secretary and bookkeeper. She and her husband Paul farmed (livestock and grain) for over fifty years and she did the bookkeeping for the farm.
Pearl was a member of D.A.R. and the Athens United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning fruits and vegetables, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. She loved her cats and doing horse-related activities, including trail rides, horse shows, and raising horses. Family and friends remember Pearl for having a kind and loving heart for people and animals.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:30 AM on Thursday January 24, 2019 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home & Funeral in Athens. Rev. Paulette Cott will be officiating. Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery.
Memorials can be given to the Athens United Methodist Church or to the Champaign County Humane Society in Champaign, IL.
Mott & Henning Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Paul and Paula, we want to express our sympathy to your family. Pearl will be missed. We enjoyed talking with Pearl over the years at the library and family reunions.
She always had a great story to share and loved her family. Our prayers are with your family.

I am sorry to hear of Pearl’s passing. I got to know her through the Athens Library and her friends there and at the Methodist Church. She always had a smile and seemed to enjoy everything she did. I was a great admirer of hers.
