Myrna Golay, age 80, of Sherman, passed away on Monday March 20, 2023 at Lewis Memorial Christian Home, Springfield, IL
She was born on December 10, 1942 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Loren and Lola (Perkins) Brown.
Myrna married Gareth on September 1, 1962 at the Sherman United Methodist Church.
Mourning her passing are her husband, Gareth; a sister, Lyla (Don) Eggleston; three brothers, Gary (Jill) Brown, Byron (Nancy) Brown and Craig (Donna) Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Myrna was a Master Gardner, where she volunteered at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. She grew her own herbs and flowers.
She was a member of the Quilting Guild in Springfield.
Myrna loved animals, especially dogs. She did extensive research studying her family genealogy. She was an avid reader. Myrna had a passion for cooking.
She also loved to weave, knit, and crochet. She weaved bolts of clothing and sent them to many designers including in New York. Myrna made her own natural dyes for wool.
Visitation for Myrna will be held on Friday March 24, 2023 from 9:30 AM until time of funeral services at 10:30 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, Illinois. Burial will be held at Strode Cemetery near Cantrall immediately after the services.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Lung Association.

I have fond memories of Myrna from working with her on Altar Guild at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman. Myrna was very talented. I can still hear her laugh. Condolences to Gareth and her other family members.

Myrna was a classmate at Athens HS. Always kind and so thoughtful. Very talented lady. My sympathy to Gareth and her family.

Myrna and I have been friends for years, we did sawing and would meet with other friends at the Sherman Library for a long time. I will miss her very much. My sympathy to Gareth and her family. She will always be in my thoughts.

She was a member of Embroidery Guild for a few years, which is when I got to know her. She will be missed.
