Michael Johns, age 63, of Cantrall passed away on October 21, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his husband, Stephen Goodson of Cantrall; sister, Vicky Barton of Edwardsville; sister-in-law, Teresa (Scott) Blauvelt of Cantrall; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and close friends, Debbie Brown and Buster.
Michael is preceded in death by both parents.
He was born on June 9, 1953 in Alton, the son of Victor and Goldie Dix-Johns.
Michael graduated from MacMurray College with a Bachelor’s Degree.
Michael worked for the Illinois Lottery as a data processor.
Visitation will be held on Monday October 24, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral service at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, IL.
Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield.
Rev. Ken Gennicks will be officiating.

I first met Mike at MacMurray College and ran into him years later at an event down in St. Louis. We became friends again and I saw him every year or so, though I hadn’t heard from him since I was in Springfield a couple of years ago. I ran into him when I was at a farmers’ market on the fairgrounds and we talked at length at the time. I’m so very sorry that I missed the funeral, since I am in St. Louis today and didn’t find out about it until about 11:30 this morning. My sincerest condolence go out to Stephen and the other members of his family.
