Dolores M. “Grandma Doe” McMillan
On, November 2, 2013 Dolores McMillan left her residence in Williamsville to be with her beloved husband, Charles “Bub”, and daughter, Linda, who preceded her to heaven. Dolores was born in Auburn, IL on May 27, 1923, to Stanley and Matilda (Maggs) Patrilla. She attended Auburn Schools. After graduating high school, Dolores lived in Springfield and worked as a bookkeeper for Aunt Hannah’s Baby Shop. Dolores married Charles (“Bub” or “Charlie”) McMillan on November 12, 1943, in Auburn. They farmed in Divernon before moving to their farm in Williamsville in 1959. While helping on the farm and raising their four children, Dolores also found time to work as a teller for the Elkhart Bank for several years.
Dolores was an active member of the Williamsville United Methodist Church for many years. She was much more than a wife and mother. She was an avid Scrabble player, an artist in ceramics and acrylics, the gardener for her flower laden yard, a chocolate chip cookie baker, the seamstress for grandchildren’s Halloween costumes, a pinochle player in two card clubs for many years until her health declined, and “Grandma Doe” for many Williamsville residents.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bub; her oldest daughter, Linda (Tom) Lysen; her parents; and a sister, Isabelle (John) Mason. She is survived by children: Sharon (Patsy Cowsert) McMillan, Donald “Chuck” (Sue) McMillan, Carol (Harvey) Garecht; five grandchildren: Sarah McMillan, Nicole (Richard) Sandidge, Megan, Charles, and Holly Garecht; four great grandchildren: Lexi Reid, Chloe and Madi Sandidge and Sebastian “SJ” Casson; her brother, Stanley “Mannie” (Barbara) Patrilla of Littleton, Colorado; sister-in-law, Joan McMillan of Auburn; brother-in-law, John (Bonnie) McMillan of Loami; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 4 to 8 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in her memory to Williamsville United Methodist Church or charity of your choice.

I’am so sorry to hear about Doe, as we called her. She was a member of our Red Hat Society and we dearly loved her. She enjoyed putting on her red hat and going out to lunch with us. I really enjoyed seeing her big smile as she always had and her beautiful blue eyes.
