Mary J. Kern

Mary Jo Kern, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village at the age of 91.  She was born on January 19, 1926, in Middletown, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Pearl Bock Gunsten.

She married Orville Kern on October 10, 1954 at the First Methodist Church in Pekin, Illinois.  He preceded Mary in death on October 28, 2007.

Mary graduated from Pekin High School.  She retired from General Telephone Company where she worked as clerk.  They lived in Bloomington most of their married life.  After retirement, they moved to Springfield.

Mary is survived by one sister, Phyllis (Bob) Jump of Casa Grande, AZ.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James and Dean Gunsten, and sister, Doris Hunt.

Graveside funeral service will be Saturday, March 11^th at 1:00 PM at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens, Illinois.
