Marilyn Jean “McCall” Chastain, 86, of Cantrall, died, Sunday, May 16, 2021 at her home in Cantrall, IL.
She was born March 2, 1935, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Russell McCall and Irene Henrikson. She attended Athens High School and received her diploma at Readstown, Wisconsin.
She married Bobby “Bob” Chastain September 18, 1955.
Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was baptized at the Athens Christian Church where she taught 3rd grade Sunday school. She was a homemaker, Brownie leader, a PTA and Home Extension Member. She worked as the bookkeeper and rented apartments for Chastain Builders. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, sewing, quilting, and crochet.
Survivors: Son, Stacy A. Chastain of Cantrall; Daughter, Diana L. “Chastain” Nelson (husband, Steve) of Springfield, IL; two grandchildren, Jackeline R. Nelson-Rogers (husband, Brian) of Springfield, IL, and John D. Nelson (wife, Ashley) of Manhattan, KS; and one Great-granddaughter, Cataleya-Marie Grace Rogers. She has eight sisters, Donna Dahl, Sharon Malec, and Nancy Cox of Wisconsin; Kathy McIntire of Idaho; Marty Bonner, Mary Beth Campbell, Tina Nelson, and Melanie Wills of Washington. She has four brothers, Don McCall of Wisconsin, Roger McCall of Lincoln, IL; Mike Henrikson and Ralph Henrikson of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her death were her husband Bobby “Bob” Chastain (died April 12, 2014), and her parents Russell McCall and Irene Henrikson.
Services will be held Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Mott and Henning Funeral Home, 206 N. Main St., Athens, IL. Visitation from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Rick Irwin from the First Christian Church of Girard, IL will be officiating.
Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, W. Logan County Line Rd, Williamsville, IL.
Mott and Henning Funeral Home, Athens, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to “Athens Christian Church” Bereavement Fund, 1411 IL-29, Athens, IL 62613. Please note in honor of Marilyn Chastain. Marilyn’s wish was to help provide meals for funeral services.

My Aunt was a very kind person. As Diana and I were just talking about our Mothers we feel that we both got very luck to have such great ones!
They were great friends and coffee drinkers. Aunt Marilyn always had kind words and a smile for everyone.

Dear Marilyn was a true “big sister”! She always felt It was her job to protect as well as discipline her younger siblings!! She was a very special person in my upbringing! My sincerest condolences to Stacy, Diana, Steve, Jacqueline, John David. She loved her family deeply. ❤

Please accept my belated sympathy at your loss. Marilyn was always such a delight to be around and was an excellent example of a kind gentle person who always had a smile and good word for others.
