Mabel Grace McNeil, 93, of Williamsville, passed away at 11:38 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Mabel was born December 12, 1923, in Williamsville, the daughter of Steven Carter and Margaret McNeff Carter.  She married the love of her life, Robert Bruce McNeil, on October 31, 1944 at the Williamsville Christian Church. He survives.

Mabel graduated from Williamsville High School in 1941 and received her RN from Memorial School of Nursing in 1944. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  She was very energetic and had a great sense of humor.  She worked for a period of time at McFarland Zone Center, the office of Dr. Henry Konzelmann, and as a school nurse for Williamsville School District.  She was a volunteer for years at the Williamsville Senior Citizens’ Center and helped her husband deliver meals through Daily Bread.  She enjoyed dancing, golfing, and traveling with her husband.  Mabel loved life, had a giving nature, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Harry, Earl, Henry and Stanley, and sister, Frances.   Besides her husband, Bruce, she is survived by two daughters, Stephanie (Pete) Pasero of Newton, IL, Peggy (Jim) Williamson of Sherman, and special nephew David (Kay) Carter of Williamsville.  Eight grandchildren: Spencer (Eileen) Pasero of Batavia, IL, Brian (Stephanie) Pasero of Nashville, IL, Robert (Beth) Pasero of Robinson, IL, Samuel (Wendy) Williamson of Williamsville, Edward Williamson of Sherman, Stephanie (Matthew) Kietzman of Kalamazoo, MI, Joshua (Carla) Carter of Williamsville, and Jennifer (Mike) Benner of Williamsville; 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Hughes Kincaid of Sherman.  She is also survived by several cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 017 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home, Athens, IL.  Funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary Winkleman, presiding.  Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Williamsville, IL.

The McNeil Family would like to thank the staff of St. John’s Hospice who lovingly cared for her.

  3. Dear Cousin Bruce and Children–I am out of town, but not out touch -I want you to know that our Mabe was one of our favorites–you two ushered in our unions(marriages/anniversaries} and attended our departures. Bless you, love you, and miss you—Mabel Grace…..Wm A.

  4. Aunt Mabel was always happy to see me when I was visiting. She made me feel like I was home.
    I have many memories visiting with my Grandparents. They both loved her so much. As do I.
