Orville Kern, age 81, of Springfield, died at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield on Sunday, October 28, 2007.

Mr. Kern was born March 18, 1926 in Sangamon County, the son of Berton LeRoy and Anna Rebecca Schumacher Kern.

Mr. Kern married Mary Gunsten on October 10, 1954 at the Methodist Church in Pekin, Illinois.

He served for the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Kern began working on the family farm and later at Grieme Brothers in Springfield for several years. He then worked as a lineman and later a purchasing agent for General Telephone in Bloomington, Illinois for 25 years.

Mr. Kern was a member of Telephone Pioneers Association.

Visitation will be held at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday and where funeral services will be held at on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.
