Dorothy Kern, age 77, of Rochester, died at 1:30 p.m. on August 26, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Kern was born June 15, 1930, in Elkhart, the daughter of Evan and Zilphia Allen Davis.

She graduated from Elkhart Community High School and attended Lincoln Christian College. She was employed as a secretary at Elkhart Community High School, Sangamon Area Special Education District, Pillsbury Mills and Franklin Life Insurance Company.

Mrs. Kern was a member of the Rochester Christian Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher of the Ladies Class for over 30 years and was Auxiliary Coordinator at Lewis Memorial Christian Village for over 30 years. She devoted many hours to painting and artwork over the years.

She married Kenneth E. Kern on August 11, 1957, at Elkhart Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers; Donovan, Delmar, Warren, Merle, Louis and William Davis.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth and eleven sisters-in-law; Thelma and Elma (Toots) Davis of Elkhart, Mary, Catherine Marie and Lois Davis of Sherman, Mary Mohler of Salisbury, Vera Jane Howell of LaVerne, CA, Sharon McIntire of Athens, and Marilyn, Barbara and Judy Kern of Petersburg, one brother-in-law, Owen McIntire and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be at Mott & Henning Funeral Home on Sunday, September 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. with funeral services at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 4th at 10:00 a.m.

Rev. David Upchurch officiating.

Burial: Elkhart Cemetery

Memorial contributions may be made to Rochester Christian Church Building Fund.
