Kathryn Page, age 101, died Tuesday April 11, 2023 at Heritage Health in Carlinville, Illinois.
Kathryn Mary Kincaid was born September 10, 1921 in Springfield, the daughter of Lawrence and Fannie (Fulton) Kincaid.
Kathryn grew up on a farm in rural Menard County, attending a two-room schoolhouse at Indian Point. She graduated from Athens High School as valedictorian. Her comment was “well there were only 13 seniors.”
She attended Western Illinois College in Macomb where she met her husband, Raymond Page.
They both graduated on June 3,1943 and were married June 6 at the family farm. Ray enlisted in the Army Air Corps and Kathryn taught home economics at Waverly High Scholl for a year before joining Ray in Texas where their son Kenneth was born. After the war they spent a few years in Chebanse, Illinois where their daughter Marcia was born.
Upon returning to Springfield, Kathryn taught home economics at Divernon High School and Ursuline Academy and worked a few years at the State Treasurer’s Office. She retired to support Ray during his two terms as State Superintendent of Schools.
They retired to Tucson, Arizona where they spent 33 enjoyable years together. Kathryn was active in AAUW and DAR chapters in both Arizona and Illinois. Ray and Kathryn loved to travel, spending many summers back in Illinoi at Lake Petersburg and visiting with friends and family. Most of their trips involved staying in the city where the Chicago Cubs would be playing. Kathryn favorite trip was the two months they spent in the northwest and Alaska.
When Ray died, Kathryn moved back to Springfield, to be near family and spent 15 good years with her friends at Brendan Gardens. She was a walking encyclopedia of birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations. She loved sending and receiving cards and kept in touch with family and friends, both old and new. She was known as thoughtful, kind, and polite, always asking, and remembering the names of anyone she meets.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, her daughter Marcia VanDenBerge and her uncle Amond Fulton.
She is survived by her son, Ken (Connie) Page, son-in-law (Gary) VanDenBerge, five grandchildren, Jake (Laura), Brian (Whitney), Charlie Page, Kathy (Matt) Welko and Kelli (James) Starck; five great-grandchildren, Iris and Leo Page, Samantha, Alyssa and Josie Welko.

Pastor Sandi Woodard of Indian Point Presbyterian Church will preside. The ladies of the Indian Point Presbyterian Church will host a luncheon at the church after the burial service.

Kathryn was a very alert person and a joy to engage in conversation. As a member of the Pierre Menard Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, she was the oldest member and the same age as the chapter. In 2022 Pierre Menard Chapter celebrated 100 years. Kathryn was very generous to the DAR and graciously hosted a chapter meeting at her Brendan Garden home. She certainly lived the DAR Motto: God, Home and Country.

Aunt Kathryn was a special person; kind, smart, and loving. She shared her smile and her heart with everyone she met. When I was young I spent a lot of time with her and her goofy dog captain, a large standard poodle. I think the only person he listen to was her. I loved being with her because she made you feel special. There could be 100 people in the room and I’m sure everyone of them felt they were special and that is a gift. She will be missed by so many who loved her.
Ken , Connie, Gary, and all of your children and grandchildren I know you are hurting. She sure had a good run and I know if anyone is in heaven it’s Kathryn Page. My deepest condolences for your loss.
