Karen VonBehren, age 57, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, November 24, at her residence.
Karen was born December 23, 1960 in Long Beach, California, the daughter of Eugene and Betty Walsh.
She is survived by two sons, Brett Mohr and Jacob VonBehren; two grandchildren, Liam and Kylee Mohr; parents, Eugene and Betty Walsh; siblings, Kathleen (husband Fred) Knope, Maureen Gochanour, Eugene Walsh, Jr., Betty (husband Jim) Thomas, and Thomas (wife Tammy) Walsh; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Karen worked as a Public Service Administrator for State of Illinois, Department of Health and Family Services for 33 years. She loved being outdoors, including canoeing and camping.
She was a diehard Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan. Karen loved working in her yard, gardening, grilling-out, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Holy Family Church in Athens. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield.
Rev. Thomas Holinga will be officiating.

I loved Karen like a sister ,,,,, what a great Cubs fan, Packers fan…..I forgive her errors in those choices 😳
Anyway, I could not have worked w/anyone better or more fun. ! will miss her everyday.

Karen was one of the friendliest and most engaging person I’ve ever met. Even though we never worked closely together I loved running into her and catching up. She always had that big grin and special sparkle. I’m so sorry for her family.

Karen and I became friends at CACC in 1977 and every time we ran into each other over the next 40 yrs was like seeing your best friend again. So saddened by her passing and want to give my condolences to her family. She was a special person and I’m so glad she was a part of my life. My memories of her always bring a smile to my face. Saying prayers for all her family.

Karen was a wonderful affectionate and loving lady. She never was behind in helping anyone. I will miss her forever. May God give strength to her family during this time. May she rest in peace.

My condolences to Karen’s Family…Met her through Pennie Stevens. Had a lot of good times with her. She will be missed.
