John Wasilewski, age 93, of Athens, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg.
Mr. Wasilewski was born April 8, 1931 in Athens, Illinois, the son of Stanley and Mary Brackhan Wasilewski.
He married Joan Doggett on November 7, 1953.
Mourning his passing are his wife, Joan Wasilewski; three daughters, Jill Wasilewski of Athens, Illinois, Julie (husband Pete) Weher of McMinnville, Oregon, and Jamie Wasilewski of Springfield, Illinois; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Mary Joyce Wells of Athens; and several nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by a son, John L. Wasilewski in 2006; three brothers, James, Larry, and Robert Wasilewski; and three sisters, Phyllis Kneedler, Carol Baugher, and Winifred Tobias.
Mr. Wasilewski graduated from Athens High School in 1949. He worked at Ideal Industries for 23 years and was a part-time carpenter for all of his life.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for three and a half years with the Security Service during the Korean Conflict. He was active in numerous sports.
Funeral services for Mr. Wasilewski will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, Illinois with Rev. Shane Baker officiating. Burial will be held immediately after the service at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.
A funeral luncheon will be held at the Athens Christian Church immediately after the burial at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Athens Basic Life Support.
