John E. Tomlin

d. June 20, 2018

Our beloved John Edward Tomlin, age 91, resident of Round Rock, Texas, and formerly of Greenview, Illinois, was called to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 11, 2018. He passed away peacefully with his daughters at his side.

John was born September 27, 1926, in Easton, Illinois, the son of Noel and Francis (Stevens) Tomlin. On November 24, 1946, he married Audrey Mae Laun in New Holland. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother, David Tomlin, and David’s wife, Barb, his brothers-in-law, Raymond Burgett, Wayne Budke, and Elmer Baker, and his son-in-law, David Carter.

He is survived by his loving children, Randall “Randy” Tomlin, Lora Carter Neale (David), and Joy Tomlin

Morales (Joe); three grandchildren, Lindsay Carter Bauersachs (Derrek), Dana Carter, and Christa

Morales; two great-grandsons, Grayson Bauersachs and Lincoln Bauersachs; his siblings, Phyllis Baker, Mary Ann Budke, Richard Tomlin (Alma), Paul Tomlin (Janice), Denis Tomlin (Donna); and numerous nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Easton High School then proudly serving our country as a member of the U.S. Navy during WWII, farming became John’s primary career. Additionally, he enjoyed several years working for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation as Superintendent of Highways for Mason, Menard, and Cass counties.  He eagerly served his community in a variety of roles, and was a former member of the Greenview United Church, 40 & 8, Masonic Lodge 653, and American Legion Post 715.

John never met a stranger and constantly widened his circle of friends. Although his own family was his top priority and he loved them dearly, he loved to socialize. Simply being with family and friends both old and new was his favorite thing to do, and he was always ready and happy to help anyone in need. His joys and skills ranged from the ordinary (dancing, playing cards, woodworking, gardening, and riding horses) to the surprising (roller skating, snow and water skiing). There was pretty much nothing he could not do.

John’s family expresses sincere thanks for the many heartfelt condolences and kind support since his passing.
