Jo Anne (Carter) Tibbs, age 85, of Williamsville, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Country Lane Memory Care.
She was born February 1, 1935, in Williamsville, IL, to Lester B. and Esther Edith Gaither Carter. Jo married Robert (Bob) Tibbs, Sr. on December 25, 1953, in Middletown, and he preceded her in death on November 10, 2020. Also, preceding Jo in death was her son, Bob Tibbs, Jr.
Mourning Jo’s passing is daughter, Debbie Tibbs Strong; daughter-in-law Kathy Richardson Tibbs; her grandchildren, Tiffany (Brent) Tibbs Bordenkircher and Meagan (Brandon) Strong Maurer; four great-grandchildren, Brock and Brynn Bordenkircher and Hayden and Owen Maurer; brothers, Lester Carter and Harold (Carol) Carter; sisters, Eileen (Charlie) Grampp, Yvonne (Tom) Dobey, and Carolyn Sue Bishop; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and their extended families.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jereline Long, and brothers Bernard, Gerald and Neil Carter.
Jo retired from DonTech after 32 years. Upon retirement, Jo enjoyed spending time with her family. She particularly enjoyed Sunday lunches, followed by a rousing card game with the kids. She enjoyed spending time in her garden surrounded by her many flowers. She walked most days and on some occasions she’d take her bike for a spin.
A very important part of Jo’s life was the blessing of being born into a large family that continued to grow as the years passed. There were many, many very large family celebrations with more food and desserts than one could count!
While no one can fully understand when and where our life might take us, it’s important to recognize that while Jo will be dearly missed, her passing comes at a time that will allow her and Bob to celebrate their 67th anniversary together on Christmas Day … since their wedding day in 1953, they’d never celebrated an anniversary apart.
Family graveside services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020, at 11:00am, at Walnut Hill Cemetery, near Williamsville, with Pastor Shane Sims officiating. Friends are welcome to join the family at the cemetery; they will be able to listen to a broadcast of the services, while remaining in their car.
Memorials may be made to Country Lane Memory Care in Riverton, IL.
Covid-19 guidelines will be followed where face coverings will be required. In light of the current Covid-19 circumstances, the family plans to hold a Celebration of Life event at a more appropriately deemed time.
