Joann Montgomery, age 85, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg.
She was born January 18, 1933 in Athens, Illinois, the daughter of Tom and Helen (Ackerman) Croft.
Joann married Donald Montgomery on December 15, 1950. They were happily married for over 67 years.
She is survived her husband, Donald; children, William (wife, Libby) Montgomery of Greenview, Joy (husband Tim) Rogers of Horton, MI, and Samuel (wife, Leslie) Montgomery of Athens; six grandsons, Matt Rogers, Wil Rogers, Zach Rogers, Austin Montgomery, Jake Montgomery, and Ben Montgomery; four sisters-in-law, Velma Croft, Cheryl Croft, Julia Thoman, and Barbara Montgomery; and several nieces, nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, one niece, and two nephews.
Joann loved being a grandmother to all her grandchildren. She was an avid Illini basketball fan. Joann loved sharing her salsa, fudge, and pickles that she lovingly made with family and friends.
Visitation for Joann will be held on Friday September 14, 2018 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Croft III will be officiating.
Memorials can be made to the Athens Christian Church.
Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

You are going to be missed by everyone that ever meant you. As your niece, I can’t imagine you not being with us. I know you are now pain free and am grateful for that. Now you and dad can continue your mischief in Heaven. Love you Melaney

We are never ready to let our loved ones go from us, but when you see them suffering they need to be at peace. God Bless you and your extended families,you are in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace Joann.
