James Oschwald, age 76, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Regency Care in Springfield.
Mr. Oschwald was born on August 11, 1941 in Andrew, Illinois, the son of William G. and Ida Edith Schmidt Oschwald. He was the youngest of six children.
He was baptized into the Christian faith on August 20, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Athens, and he was confirmed on October 2, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Springfield.
He married Lois Compton on June 15, 1963 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Springfield, Illinois.
Mr. Oschwald graduated from Lanphier High School, Springfield College in Illinois, and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Mr. Oschwald was employed as an auditor by the State of Illinois Department of Transportation from 1964-2006.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, Illinois, and was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder.
Mr. Oschwald was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Heather (Jeffery) Kadyk and Joel (Jeni) Oschwald; grandchildren, Jonah (fiancé Danielle VanMeter), Grace, and Faith Kadyk, and Paige and Addy Oschwald; sisters, Wilma Brittin and Anna May Fawns; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Oschwald is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Archie and Lila Compton; a grandson, Simon Kadyk; brother, Bill Oschwald; and two sisters, Mary Tarr and Margaret DeLong.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Springfield.
Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
Rev. Joshua Traxel will be officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran School.

Lois and family, so sorry to hear about Jims passing. We are out of town outherwise we would be at services. We always enjoyed Jim’s phone calls. He will be missed.
