J. Byron McCutchan passed away at 8:15 on Thursday, October 8 at his home with his family, surrounded by his loved ones.
Byron was born December 9, 1939 in Evansville, IN and grew up in the McCutchanville, IN area. His parents were Owen and Alta McCutchan.  They preceded him in death.
Byron graduated from the University of Evansville. It was there he met and married Sheila (Sam) McCutchan. They were married on May 1, 1965. They celebrated their 50 year Anniversary in 2015. She survives.
Throughout his working career he worked in management and sales for medical equipment companies. His lifetime hobbies included designing and making woodworking and metal shop projects. He was a fine craftsman.  He was a devoted father and grandfather, and took joy in watching each child change as they grew.
Byron leaves two sons, Eric (Carol) of Fenton, MO, J.Neil (Christina) of Athens, IL, one daughter Lori Fickas (Roger) of Dawson, IL, and five grandchildren, Alexander and Nicholas McCutchan, Isabella McCutchan and Kaden and Trenton Fickas.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens, Illinois. A short prayer service will follow.
An additional visitation will be held at Blue Grass Methodist Church, Evansville, IN, where Byron will be completing a circle of life. It was his ancestors that helped buy the land and build the original church and community building. He has always considered Blue Grass his “home churchâ€. The visitation will be on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 9:00-10:00 AM with the Funeral Service at 10:00 in the Chapel at Blue Grass. Burial will immediately follow the service in the Blue Grass Methodist Church Cemetery.
To honor his heritage and ancestors, Byron and his family have initiated a yearly scholarship for an active church member who wants to further their education or mission of faith. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to this program: Blue Grass Methodist Church, Att: Treasurer, 14200 Petersburg Road, Evansville, Indiana 47725

So sorry to hear of Byron’s passing. He was such a great guy and we really enjoyed talking with him the little that we saw him. He always had something of interest to share. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sam, Lori and the rest of family.
