Dolores Ann Griffin, age 77, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice.
Dolores was born February 23, 1935 in Springfield, the daughter of Wm. Earl and Gertrude Irene Hawkins, who preceded her in death. She married Floyd E. Griffin on November 4, 1956 in Springfield. They were married for 50 years. He preceded her in death February 2, 2008.
Dolores attended Enos and Lawrence Grade School. She was a 1953 graduate of Springfield High School. She was a member of a woman’s choral group called the Singing Seven from 1952 to 1953. She was the piano accompanist for the acapella choir for two years.
She was employed at Security Federal Savings and Loan, State of Illinois, and the Grand Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
Dolores was past Worthy Advisor, Order of the Rainbow for Girls of Springfield, Assembly #18. She received the Grand Cross of Color-Order of the Rainbow for Girls, past President of Zeta Rho Chapter Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She is a member of the Southside Christian Church.
She is survived by two sons, Ron E. (wife Terri) Griffin of Springfield and Rodney E. Griffin of California; granddaughter, Cortney A. (husband Jason) Graham; grandsons, Gabriel (wife Mia) Griffin and Corey (wife Tabatha) Griffin; seven great-granchildren; two sisters, Phyllis J. Dunn of Springfield, Nancy E. (husband Frank) Dunkus of Springfield, step-granddaughter, Cassie Jo (husband Jared) Lowder of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Dolores enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and traveling.
Funeral services will be held at Southside Christian Church in Springfield on Saturday at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until time of funeral service there at 12:00 PM.
Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery.
Rev. John Wentze will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dolores Ann Griffin, to Southside Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.

To Deloris’s family: I only knew Deloris for a short time but she was certainly one gracious lady. She will surely be missed by her family and friends. Betty Snedigar, Brenden Gardens

What a beautiful lady and what a loss to this world. I am so sorry. Please accept my sympathy for your great loss. Luminaria will be lit in honor of Dolores at the American Cancer Society Relay for Life which will be held on June 23 at the Fairgrounds.

Our condolence to Rodney and Ron for the loss of your mother. I sure miss Deloris and Floyd. What a great couple. I loved working with Deloris so many years ago at the Grand Lodge. We are sorry for your loss.
