Gladys Pankey, 89, of Mt. Pulaski, formerly of Elkhart passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She is survived by one brother Howard (Helen) Burton of Essex, Illinois; one sister Dorothy Lugibell of Williamsville; four sisters-in-law Gladys Guinn of Elkhart, Nancy Pankey of Elkhart, Pat Pankey of Virginia , Ruth (Fritz) Werkman of Lincoln and one brother-in-law Harold (Mary) Pankey of Elkhart along with several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Harland Pankey, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and ten brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Pankey was born May 25, 1923, in Williamsville, the daughter of Tobe and Fannie Cofer Burton.
She later married Harland Samuel Pankey on November 15, 1942 in Williamsville.
She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years and for the State of Illinois at the Lincoln Developmental Center in Lincoln as the Activity Director for 30 years, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the Elkhart United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and American Legion Auxiliary.
Services will be held at Elkhart United Methodist Church, where visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service there at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
Rev. Darrell Howard will be officiating.
Burial will be held at Elkhart Cemetery near Elkhart.
Memorials can be made to the Elkhart Methodist Church or St. John’s Hospice.
