George Hayward, age 87, of Sherman, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at his residence.
George was born on March 29, 1935 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Frank and Irene (Coffinbarger) Hayward.
George married Marilyn Nation on May 3, 1958 in Springfield, IL. She preceded him in death in 2021.
Mourning his passing are his children, Mark Hayward (Nadine Benner Hayward), Jeannette Hayward Milbrandt, John Hayward (Cindy Bond), and Jason Hayward (Sarah Kording Hayward); grandchildren, Jared Hayward (Chloe Lafargue), Megan Cunningham (Coltin), Joshua Milbrandt, Jacob Milbrandt, Luke Hayward, Brooke Hayward, Adam Hayward, and Julia Hayward; five great-grandchildren; brother, Harold (wife Janet) Hayward; sisters, Dorothy Streight and Barbara Burkhalter; and several nieces and nephews.
He is also preceded in death by his parents.
George graduated from Williamsville High School in 1953.
He worked as a Bricklayer and a State of Illinois Department of Transportation Driver.
George served for the Illinois Air National Guard. He was Chief of Police for Williamsville. He was a member of the Sangamon County Rescue Squad and Williamsville Fire Department. George served for the Williamsville School Board. He was also a member of the Masons.
George was a gold miner. He was a RC Airplane Hobbiest. George loved the outdoors, where he fished and hunted.
Visitation for George will he held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 12:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens with Rev. David Beals officiating. Burial will be held immediately after the services at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.
