Evelyn Marie Simmering, age 99, of Greenview, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home near Petersburg.
She was born March 15, 1919 in Cutler, Illinois, the daughter of Omar and Amanda Schutte Soper.
Evelyn is survived by daughter, Libby (Bill) Montgomery; one sister-in-law, Shirley Morgan; special niece, Connie (husband Jim) Wanless; special nephew, Carl “Bootsie” (wife Carmen) Morgan; and several nieces and nephews.
She preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Morgan; second husband, Elmer “Steve” Simmering; a sister, Ella Rose Foster; several brother and sisters-in-law; and nephews.
Evelyn married Joseph Morgan on September 15, 1946, and later married Steve Simmering on October 4, 1980.
She worked for the State of Illinois and later was a legal secretary for John Knuppel.
Evelyn was the oldest member of Greenview United Church Choir. She was also a member of the Fortnightly Group in Greenview.
She loved to read, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved word search games. Evelyn loved playing cards, especially pinochle.
Graveside services will be held on 11:00 AM on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Oakford Cemetery with Rev. Stephanie McCullough officiating.
Memorials can be made to the Greenview United Church and Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Libby, so sorry to read about your mom. It is never easy to lose a mother. Just remember the good times and all the lessons she taught you.
