It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Evelyn L. Sickmeyer, age 87, of The Lodge in Manito, IL, formerly of Chester, IL. Evelyn passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at The Lodge.
Born on August 27, 1936, in Rolla, Missouri, to James and Effie (Howard) Williams, Evelyn married Don “Doc” Sickmeyer, the love of her life, on December 18, 1954, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2022.
Evelyn is mourned by her children: Lynda (Dave) Mayberry, Shelley (Tony) Caiazzo, Timothy (Leslie) Sickmeyer, James (Genie) Sickmeyer, and David (Lisa) Sickmeyer; her grandchildren: John (Janine) Sickmeyer, Justin (Dorothy) Turner, Erica (Delaney) Attebery, Tyler (Erica) Sickmeyer, Joshua (Cherith) Sickmeyer, Jordan (Amy) Mayberry, Kelsey Sickmeyer, and Jonathan (Miranda) Sickmeyer; and her 21 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Etta Williams, Charlotte "Jane" Wicks, Alice "Mickie" Polivick, James Williams, Carl Williams, Walter Williams, Wallace Williams, and Pearl Stogsdill.
After graduating high school, Evelyn worked for the Girl Scouts in St. Louis before marrying Don “Doc.” She devoted her life to being a homemaker, raising her children, and later found immense joy in being “Nan” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Evelyn's greatest relationship was with her LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, Whom she loved with all her heart. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chester, IL, where she actively participated in the Parent Teacher League and volunteered as a room mother at St. John’s Lutheran School. She was also a dedicated member of the Lutheran Women’s League.
A passionate Girl Scout Leader for many years, Evelyn also assisted the Cub Scouts. She enjoyed bowling, reading, crafting in which she specialized in creating quilted Santas, as well as making quilts.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chester, IL.
