May Jean Engel, age 83, of Athens died July 21, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Engel was born May 20, 1924 in Athens, IL , the daughter of Charles and Margaret Scott Kopp.

She married William Engel at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Athens on December 30, 1945.

She was a native of Athens and graduated from Athens High School in 1942. She attended Brown Business College in Springfield and later did Secretarial work in Springfield for the Progressive Mineworkers of America for ten years. She and her husband William farmed for many years in the Athens area.

She is preceded in death by brother Charles “Jim” Kopp.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Athens and a member of the Ladies Aid.

Visitation & funeral: Visitation at Mott and Henning Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM Monday, July 23, 2007. Services at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Athens 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 24, 2007.
