Edward “Ed” D. Ramsey, age 91, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday August 15, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospita

Ed was born on June 4, 1933 in Tilden, Illinois, the son of Orbley and Jesse (Taylor) Ramsey. 

Mourning his passing are his wife, Janet (Ferguson) Ramsey; children, Bonnie (husband Mark) Chandler, Misty (husband Tom) Matykiewicz, Paula (husband Robert) Gonterman, Jeanne (husband Paul) Commer, and Lori (husband Donnie) Rogers; siblings, Violet (husband James) McQuern; seven step-children, Debbie, Russell, Connie, Eldon Jr., Jeff, and Greg ; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Edana (Ronald) Funk; son, Eddie Dane Ramsey; step-son, Jimmie; a grandchild; and siblings, Ruby Singer, Darlene Long, Thelma Miller, Orbley Ramsey, Edith Rogers, and Isabel Koett. 

Ed was owner and operator of R&L Septic. 

He was a 50 year member of the Ansar Shrine, where he was presented a diamond pin for his years of service. He also was a member of the Springfield Lodge 4 of the Masonic Temple. 

Ed was an avid bowler for many years, starting in the late 1950s. 

Visitation for Ed will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 1:00 PM until time of funeral services at 2:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens immediately after the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
