Edward “Ed” Nichols, age 83, of Athens, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Ed was born on June 5, 1939 in Athens, Illinois, the son of Charles and Myrtle (Wells) Nichols.
He married Jan Ethell on May 3, 1974 at the Athens United Methodist Church.
Ed is survived by his wife, Jan; daughters, Brandy (husband Steven) Guisgond, Terry Stout (Glenn Best); grandson, Chance; granddaughter, Brittany; sister, Joanne Beaver; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ed graduated from Athens High School. He later worked for Fiat Allis for over 23 years, Jim Higginbotham Trucking for several years, Praxair for ten years, and Ingram Soil Testing for several years.
Ed showed horses, built hotrod cars, and attended many car shows. He enjoyed playing in the band, “Crosstown Traffic”. Ed was a big Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed watching all sports, especially Illini basketball.
Ed loved spending time with his family and friends.
Visitation for Ed on Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 10:00 AM until time of Masonic Services and funeral services at 12:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Burial will be held immediately after the funeral services at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Ed will be missed. We will never forget Crosstown Traffic. I loved when he would see me he would call me Bucko!!!

So sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. Spent many a night dancing to Crosstown Traffic. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Uncle Ed you will be missed! I remember a time, a long time ago, after I got my drivers license you let me dive your hot rod! What a fun ride that was! 🙂

So many good memories of Ed & all the dances with “Crosstown” we had so many fun times.
I’m sure now he and his good buddy Denny (my brother) are rockin to Waylon on one of heaven’s clouds.

Did not know Ed personally but have memories of ‘The Stormers’ car club in Athens that my deceased husband , Kenny Holler, belonged to with Ed…you have my sympathy and prayers for your loss
