Robert L. Eden, 87, of Athens, entered heaven May 10, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice.
Bob was born in Athens, IL on December 20, 1923 the son of Albert G. and Edith Pearl (Hayden) Eden.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Gladys, brothers; Albert, Gene, and Charles, and friend Bev White. He is survived by a daughter, Joyce (Tim) Carmody, son Bill (Mary) Eden, grandchildren; Ron (Bonnie) Cauthen, Ryan (Amanda) Carmody, Tonia Riley, brothers; John (Jan) Eden, and Floyd “Butch” (Wanda) Eden.
Bob worked as an auto mechanic, welder, and air conditioning repair, retiring from Memorial Medical Center as a Maintenance Engineer. He entered the US Army in March of 1943 and served with the 36th Texas Rangers infantry division in the European Theatre during World War II and was decorated with several medals and ribbons including: two Purple Hearts, two Battle Bronze Stars, an oak leaf cluster, combat infantry badge and others. Bob and his brothers Al, Gene, and Charles were in Italy at the same time and all met.
He loved family, camping, boating and fishing.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM, Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens where services will be held on Friday at 10 AM. Pastor Darrell Debowey officiating. Burial will be at Joel Hall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2750 Sangamon Ave. Springfield, IL 62702.
