Dorothy Engel

Dorothy Engel, age 89, of Lemont, formerly of Springfield, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Lemont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lemont, IL.

Dorothy was born on June 10, 1928, the daughter of Herman and Carrie Geriets.

She married Harold Engel on February 7, 1947.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Gary Engel of Lexington, KY, a daughter, Barbara (Sherman) Hagan of Tinley Park, grandchildren Eric (Tonya) Engel, Tim Engel, Amy (Greg) Buchanan, and Brad (Christy Rodes) Hagan; six great-grandchildren, Ali, Morgan, Ryan, Ian, Emmett, and Isla; one sister Donna Miles; one brother, Herman Geriets; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 1998; two sisters; two brothers; and her parents.

Dorothy was very active in square dancing for many years.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 10:00 until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.  Graveside services to follow at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Tim Searby will be officiating.
