Donald L. Squires, age 84, of Athens, passed away on Monday May 7, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born on March 24, 1934 in Springfield, the son of Deamon and Hazel (Burris) Squires.
Don is survived by two sons, Donnie (wife Patti) Squires of Athens, Derek (wife Carol) Squires of Rockville, MD; a daughter, Debbie (husband Adam) Stevenson of Reno, NV; sister-in-law, JoAnn Howe and her children, Vicki, Bobby, Glenna, and Todd; grandchildren, Brooke (husband Jeff) Hall, Donnie (Taylor Crossland) Squires and four great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Finnegan, Landyn, and Charlotte; siblings, Ruth, Rose, Mary, Millie, and David; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly in 2007; a son, David in 1986; siblings, Pete, Elmer, Coy, Frank, Jack, and Ruby.
Donald married Beverly Stockton on September 4, 1954 at Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield.
He worked as general manager for Central Illinois Ice from 1954 until his retirement in 1998.
Visitaiton for Don will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 12:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.
Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of cremains will be held at a later date.

I can safely speak for all the Kienzlers and say we are all sad for your loss. The original “Ice Guy” and the patriarch of one of the finest families I’ve ever had the honor to know.

From me and Ed to Donny and the Squires family: Our heartfelt condolences to you. Don was a good man to know and work for when summer came. Just the sight of him and that black Ranchero was enough to remember him by. Again we are sorry for your loss
