Don Benner, age 89, of Williamsville, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah; children, Kathy (Dave) Lemme of Williamsville, Tom (Marty) Benner of Shelbyville, Nadine (Mark) Hayward of Sherman, Steve (Teresa) Benner of Williamsville, Dave (Lori) Benner of Buffalo; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Norma Carter and Wanda Christen.

He was born December 20, 1925 in Springfield, the son of Henry Edward and Ethel Elizabeth Jurgens Benner.

Don was a retired farmer in the Williamsville area.  He worked for Williams Township Cemeteries as Cemetery Manager and board president.  He was president of the Elkhart Grade School Board and a member of the Mt. Pulaski School Board.

He was a member of the Williamsville United Methodist Church, Elkhart American Legion, and Williamsville Community Foundation. He also volunteered at the Williamsville Historical Museum.

Don was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the Pacific.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.

An additional visitation will be held from 10:00 until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Williamsville United Methodist Church.

Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.

Rev. Dick Piscatelli will be officiating.

Memorials can be made to the Williamsville United Methodist Church.

 

Mott & Henning Funeral Home is assisting the Benner family.

  1. I am sorry to learn of the passing of Don. He was very helpful to me at the passing of my parents in 2007.

  2. Don was a very kind and helpful man, particularly in his work as cemetery trustee for Walnut Hill.
