Delbert L. Weidhuner, age 82, of Springfield, formerly of Athens, passed away on June 28 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Delbert was born on February 16, 1940 in Fancy Prairie, Illinois, the son of Fred Arnold and Lena Frances (Miller) Weidhuner.
He married Linda Pierceall on April 11, 1959.
Mourning his passing are his wife, Linda; daughter, Dena (Steve) Edwards; son, Scott (Amy) Weidhuner; five grandchildren, Brian, Elizabeth (Stephen), Tabatha, Derek, Kristy; three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Italia and Lynsie; brother, Fred (Helen) Weidhuner; one sister, Evelyn (Roger) Beeler; sister-in-law, Karen Weidhuner; and brother-in-laws, Dean Peddicord and Charles Curry; and several nieces and nephews.
Delbert is preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann; brothers, William and Ronald; sisters, Gloria Felton, Katherine Peddicord, and Doris Curry.
He graduated from Athens High School in 1958.
When Delbert was 8 years old he started working for Homer Weidhuner on a farm. He worked for MAPCO Fertilizer, Patterson Brothers Propane Company for 34 years. Delbert also drove a school bus for Athens and Williamsville School Districts.
He loved gardening and working in the yard. Delbert was an avid wrestling fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Visitation for Delbert will be on Saturday July 2, 2022 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Rev. Ken Gennicks will be officiating.
Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery following the services.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
