David Taapken, age 78, of Greenview, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at his residence.
He was born December 7, 1946 in Petersburg, Illinois, the son of Merle and Josephine (Lyons) Taapken.
David married Janet on February 12, 2000 in Las Vegas, NV.
Mourning his passing are his wife, Janet; son, Rod (wife Sherri) Taapken; three stepchildren, Amy (husband Jeff) Tuttle, Ray (Laci) Hamilton, and Kati Hamilton; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Donnie (wife Grace) Taapken, Sandra Taapken, Richard (wife Rachel) Taapken, and Barbara Taapken (husband Joe Bothel); and two half-sisters, JoAnn Brady and Jodi Bates.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Alicia Winningham; son, Dustyn Taapken; grandchild, Curtis Taapken; and his parents, Merle and Josephine.
David was owner/operator of Taapken Construction throughout his life. Later in his working career he maintained numerous oil fields in Oklahoma with his brother Rich. David delivered travel trailers throughout the Midwest for numerous businesses. Most recently he and his wife were owners/operators of Taaper’s Tap in Greenview for nearly 12 years.
He was a member of the Ansar Shrine, Masonic Lodge, VFW, and AMVETS.
David loved listening to old country western music, and camping and fishing.
He served for the US Air Force from 1967 until 1970, earning a rank of Sargent.
Cremation rites will be accorded per David’s request. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
