Charlotte Bueltmann

October 30, 1943 — January 22, 2025

Buffalo

Charlotte Jane Tansky Bueltmann, 81, was called to her heavenly home from her home in Buffalo, Illinois on January 22, 2025. She was born October 30, 1943, in Springfield, the daughter of Alfred and Erma (Fedora) Tansky. On June 29, 1963, in St. John’s Lutheran Church, New Berlin, she married David John Bueltmann, who survives.

She was a 1957 graduate of St. John’s Lutheran School (New Berlin, Illinois) and a 1961 graduate of New Berlin High School. She worked for the State of Illinois in Springfield until a week before their first child was born. She was a stay-at-home Mom until the youngest of their children was born. At that time, they were living at Camp CILCA and she became head cook out of necessity. The rest of her life was spent sharing her gift of hospitality. She spent 12 years at CILCA and when they moved to Quincy, they bought a house and turned it into a bed and breakfast (Bueltmann Gasthaus). She loved this and developed many friendships with guests from many places. In 1998, she left the B & B to live in the Springfield area with her husband who became President of the Central Illinois District of the LCMS. During that time, she became a mentor for other Pastors’ wives and started annual retreats for them.

She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Decatur, where David has served as pastor for the past 9 years. Charlotte will be remembered by her family and numerous friends as a loving and devoted mother, wife, and a true friend. She found joy in caring for and loving her friends and putting their needs first. She has set a loving example for her friends and family to follow. Charlotte enjoyed her family and serving the Lord. She loved her Savior and shared that love with all the people she encountered. Her motto was: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” (Proverbs 3:5) Her confirmation verse was John 3:16.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Dr. David Bueltmann and their five children and 17 grandchildren: Kris Bueltmann of St. Charles, Missouri (and children Sarah, Seth, Rachel, Emily, Adam, and Hannah); Rev. Kevin Bueltmann of Bigfork, Montana (wife Tawn and children Rev. Aaron, Brianna, Carly, and Davis); Rev. Keith Bueltmann of Pana, Illinois (and children Katy, Arik, and David), Rev. Kurtis Bueltmann of Abilene, Texas (wife Cyndi and children Jacob, Abi, Augie, and Jordan), and Deaconess Kim Bueltmann of Germany, as well as 13 great-grandchildren (Jayden, Jayson, Fredrick, Zander, Chase, Oliver, Michael, Piper, Sophia, Cassandra, Selina, Adalyn, and Autumn). Her dear sisters Betty Ryan and Carolyn Marcotte and brother-in-law John Bradley also survive her. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Faith Stern and brother-in-law George (Pat) Bueltmann.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Tansky and sister Eleanor Bradley.

Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church of Decatur, Illinois; Worship Anew of Fort Wayne, Indiana; or Camp CILCA of Cantrall, Illinois.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 28 from 4-7 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Berlin, Illinois and Wednesday, January 29 from 10-10:45 am. The celebration of life service will be held at the same location on Wednesday, January 29 at 11 am.
