Charles Campbell, age 89, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Charles is survived by his wife, Marcine; four children, Deb (Jim) Evans of Marengo, IL, Janis (Brad) Wilson of Petersburg, IL, Tim (Lynne) Campbell of Sandwich, IL and Brenda Price of Petersburg, IL; one brother, Douglas (Carol) Campbell of Archdale, NC; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Charles was born on May 18, 1927 in High Point, North Carolina, the son of Jesse and Alma Clark-Campbell.
Charlie and Marcine were married for 63 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal and one Bronze Service Star.
Charlie was a member of Cotton Hill Methodist Church in Springfield. He loved his family, which was the most important part of his life. He was a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather. Fishing, traveling and gardening were all activities he loved, which he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Visitation for Charlie will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 4-8 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, IL. A private family service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 12:30 at Cotton Hill Methodist Church in Springfield.
Pastor Sharon Treptow will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Celtic Hospice and Cotton Hill Methodist Church.
